Anyone who has been to Francis Tuthill’s famous Porsche workshops at Wardington near Banbury knows that we are not Porsche snobs.
Though much of our business is aimed at Porsche people, we have never forgotten our roots. Francis started with VW Beetles many years ago, and we are still great fans of the badge, offering servicing on Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda cars.
Our engine and rally car workshops build some very quick cars for people, but you don’t always need fast to have fun. Richard’s beloved Citi Golf is a perfect example: one look at this car tells you it’s all about the grin factor.
The Mk 1 Citi Golf has been with us a few years now. Having emigrated to the UK from South Africa with some family friends, it became a bona fide family member via the in-laws, finally coming to Richard after years of badgering his relatives. So it’s a bit of an heirloom!
Recently returned from long-term loan, the Citi Golf spent today in our road car workshop, being treated to a service and some new tyres. Once it’s been checked over, it’ll go back to its standby state, ready for the next no-car emergency. The rust-free little Golf has helped many a mate out of trouble late on a cold and stormy night, when their daily driver has let them down.
Asked whether we should promote the Golf as some kind of courtesy vehicle, Richard’s answer is always the same: “No way would I lend this to customers, it’s far too good!” Few of us would disagree – losing the blue baby would break a few hearts around here.
