Tuthill takes back-to-back wins in Monza 2.0L Cup

Tuthill Porsche takes a 2.0L Cup win at Monza for the second year running!

The 2.0L Cup series recently returned to Monza in Italy as part of the 2020 season, for the Monza Historic Festival with Peter Auto. Tuthill Porsche supported three 2-litre 911s across the weekend: the 72 car of Richard Cook and Harvey Stanley, Philippe de Craene in the familiar number 5 and the latest 2L Cup racer to leave our stable: Christian Coll’s Shell-inspired number 74.

Richard Cook and Harvey Stanley were defending champions at Monza, having scored their debut win (and the first ever amateur win in 2L Cup) here last year. Philippe was keen to improve on his 15th place finish from 2019 and Christian was out to enjoy the circuit and learn what was possible.

The weekend got off to a great start. All three cars were in the top eight in practice, with Christian setting the highest top speed in Gentleman Drivers. Qualifying also went well: Harvey set the third quickest time with Philippe not far behind in seventh position. Christian was a little further back, but his proven speed from practice meant that the race would give opportunities.

The race was held in bright sunshine and all three of our cars were instantly making up places. Harvey set the fastest first sector times of the race, with Christian fourth fastest through sector one and third in sector two. Philippe was racing well, at the front of the midfield in sector times but making up places throughout.

After ninety minutes racing, the champs had prevailed; Richard Cook and Harvey Stanley claimed their second win at Monza. Philippe had done even better, coming through the field from seventh to second overall: another terrific result. Christian also made up places eventually finishing ninth.

“Two cars on the podium and three in the top nine: we leave Italy very happy with another great weekend,” said Richard Tuthill. “Well done to all of our drivers in 2.0L Cup. Huge well done also to Michel Speyer in Classic endurance. Having set blistering top speeds in his Tuthill-built 911 RSR during practice, Michel took a well-deserved race finish just off the class podium. The silverware is not far away!”
