Belgian rallying legend Patrick Snijers won the Boucles de Spa historic rally on Saturday (14 February) in one of the Porsche 911s entered by Tuthill Porsche.
The Banbury team entered four Porsche 911s on the biggest historic rally of the year, and at one stage had the possibility of a one-two-three result as Markku Alen and Bernard Munster joined Snijers at the head of the leader board
Unfortunately, Alen retired before the final leg of three stages with a suspected broken rocker and dropped to fourth after being held up on a particularly snowy stage by the Opel Manta 400 of Guy Colsoul.
“Patrick’s car ran like clockwork right through the event and he had no problems at all,” said Richard Tuthill. “It was a full snow rally and we used ice tyres for the whole event. Markku led the rally and it was a real shame that he went out with five stages to go. Bernard could have been second without the time he dropped while stuck behind Colsoul.
“Nevertheless, it was a fantastic event,” said Tuthill. “To go there against such strong opposition, start with number 1 on the door of Patrick’s car and win the rally is very special for us.”
With an entry of 280 cars including all the great names of Belgian rallying, the Boucles de Spa was an incredibly competitive event, with 500km of snow-bound stages around the event’s hometown of Spa.
