Tuthill Porsche on the Colin McRae Stages Rally

Tuthill Porsche on the 2011 Colin McRae Historic Forest Stages: Dunlop/WONAGO MSA British Historic Rally Championship

Last weekend was the 2011 Colin McRae Historic Forest Stages: the final round of the Dunlop/WONAGO MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

Tuthill Porsche were out in numbers: as was the rain. All the field encountered problems over the event, which became an ice rink after the heavens opened on the first stage. As fog filled the drivers’ windscreens, crashes and mechanical failures became the norm.

“It’s like Finland!” said Jimmy McRae, who was forced to drop the tyre pressures of his Tuthill Porsche in an attempt to find some traction. It worked: the Scot shot through to take the lead on Errochty and went on to clinch Category Three. The other Tuthill runners made it home in one piece: well done to all of them for coming through such atrocious conditions intact.

The rally organisers posted a thank you message to all those who had braved the worst conditions they had ever seen. They also praised those who got the audience out of the rain-sodden fields of Aberfeldy at the end of the event. Who said rallying wasn’t glamorous?!
