Just as the flat-six engine sits at the heart of the Porsche 911’s identity, so the engine rebuild shop sits at the heart of all Tuthill Porsche projects. We’re lucky to have a great team of engine builders on staff.
Tony is the ‘new boy’ in our engine department, but carries a wealth of experience gained over more than twenty years in motorsport. Most recently part of hybrid electric programmes for both Williams F1 and Audi WEC, Tony has spent most of his career to date with the Prodrive Subaru WRC team, joining in 1996 and staying for eighteen years.
Anthony is Tuthill to the core. Starting with us as a bright-eyed apprentice, straight out of Lancashire, Anthony spent a week in the rally workshop before being comandeered by Francis and trained as his engine-building assistant. Years later, Anthony’s first-ever engine build is still going strong and he has built many more, including all the super-quick 2-litre race car engines which currently make up the bulk of his workload, not to mention the ex-Chris Harris Porsche 911 ST engine, recently refreshed at Tuthills.
“Really quick 2-litre engines are very rewarding to build,” says Anthony, “but there’s a 910 engine in a box under my bench which I can’t wait to get started on. It’s brilliant to work on heritage race engines, originally built by the masters at Porsche. That does it for me.”
Alan is the engine shop youngster. A native Venezuelan now living in Northamptonshire, Alan spends two days a week studying motorsport at nearby Bicester College, with three days spent at Tuthills. “There’s so much to learn and the work is quite challenging, but I’m lucky to be here amongst all this experience.”
