The Tuthill-built Porsche 911 3.0 RSR of EB Motorsport took a memorable win in the Nürburgring Trophy race during the 43rd Oldtimer Grand Prix weekend. Ambient temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius during the four-hour historic sportscar race led to many retirements, but the 3-litre Porsche 911 ran perfectly all the way to the chequered flag.
EB Motorsport drivers Mark Bates and Sean McInerney stood on the podium above Nürburgring legend, Olaf Manthey and German sportscar ace and former Porsche Supercup champion, Frank Stippler. Race organisers suggested the win was the first for a non-German crew.
Nürburgring Success for Porsche 911 RSR
The win is the latest in a long line of victories for the Light Yellow Porsche 911 RSR, which was first built as a 2.5-litre 911 ST by Tuthill Porsche in 2009, before conversion to RSR spec the following year with a new 3.0-litre engine build. Since then, the Porsche 911 has claimed back-to-back Masters Historic Sportscar titles as well as many class wins in FIA historic racing events all over Europe.
The close working relationship forged between Tuthill Porsche and EB Motorsport in this car’s early development has continued ever since. Tuthill Porsche uses EB Motorsport parts for its historic Porsche builds and the two organisations share mutual professional respect.
