As the days get longer and we approach the end of our 2017 Below Zero Ice Driving season, preparations are well under way for this year’s historic motorsport season. Tuthill 911s – including news of a very special mid-’70s machine coming up later – will be racing across the UK and Europe, so Porsche fans will have many opportunities to see our cars in action.
Circuit Racing
The 2017 Masters Historic Racing season starts with a weekend at Barcelona on April 8-9 for the Espiritu de Montjuic. The smart 1965 Porsche 911 2-litre race car driven by Colin Paton is a confirmed entry for Barcelona and the 911 will also be seen at more historic race meetings during 2017.
The GT and Sports Car Cup was a big hit with competitors through 2016. This year’s calendar is nicely spread out, with three UK events and a final race weekend at the Algarve Classic Festival in Portimao at the end of October. Anthony Galliers-Pratt will be taking part in the UK events in his 1965 Porsche 911 SWB racer, and we expect one or two of our historic circuit racing clients to also make it to Portugal.
Anthony will also be returning to Italy for the beautiful Modena Cento Ore, which was such a wonderful event for our clients last year. Great people, great roads and exceptional racing circuits made this a must-do event for 2017. Anthony will be joined at the Cento Ore by Glenn Janssens in his newly-refurbished Group 4 911, which has also had a livery change for the season. Glenn starts his season at next month’s TAC Rally on April 7-8: the same weekend as the Masters opening round.
Endurance Rallying
We also have a lot of rally action coming up this year, with three Tuthill cars entered on the Endurance Rally Association’s Baltic Classic Rally which starts at the end of May and runs to June 10. A brand new rally customer, David Danglard and his wife Susan will compete in their Tuthill Porsche 911: we are excited to see how they fare.
Our good friends and great Porsche competitors, Gavin and Diana Henderson, and Edmund Peel and Sara McDonald will also take on the Baltic Classic in Tuthill 911s, so it is sure to be a thrilling event. We also have the East African Safari Classic Rally on the horizon (November/December 2017) and Tuthill Porsche 911s are still available for this superb historic motorsport event. Time is running out to prepare a car for entry, so contact us soon if this gets your juices flowing.
Back on circuit, Tuthill cars will also be seen at the Spa 6 Hours and Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix. More news of those weekends coming up soon, including that all-new racing machine. It is a very exciting project!
