Our favourite Porsche-driving Irishman did us proud last weekend, with a win in Category 1 on the 2012 Todds Leap Ulster Historic Rally.
On form from the start, Dessie Nutt took class win after class win, topping the times for the Category 1 pre-1968 cars on every stage.
As Dessie’s main rival for championship glory fell by the wayside, the 2009 champ capitalised on his car’s reliability and secured a home win, twenty seconds ahead of second place at the chequered flag.
With just two events left – Flanders and McRae Stages, thoughts turn to the 2012 BHRC championship battle. Dessie started Ulster in third place overall on 131 points, trailing second-place Elliott and leader Reynolds, on 150 and 155 points respectively.
The Ulster points haul will be healthy, but the rules allow a racer’s six best finishes from the eight championship rallies. On this rule, and recent form, Reynolds looks untouchable, but it’s not over yet. Dessie likes a Tarmac rally and that’s all we’ve got in Belgium!
No updates have been posted on the organisers’ website, but we’ll update our pages when the scores become available.
