A Tuthill Porsche customer, resident in France, recently brought his car back to us for service. The car in question is a really lovely Carrera RS replica, in white and blue livery. Our customer uses it for road rallying and general country driving around the very scenic part of France where he lives.
When we were converting this car for light competition use, we advised the fitment of our sump guards front and rear, to protect the drivetrain from damage over less than perfect surfaces. Looking at the guards after a few years in use, it’s clear that this was good advice, as the guards have absorbed impacts which would otherwise have been inflicted upon the chassis, engine or gearbox.
Our sump guards are made from lightweight aluminium, so don’t add much to the weight of the car. Despite their light weight, they add immeasurable peace of mind by protecting the chassis and increasingly unobtainable drivetrain parts over bumpy roads. Protected parts include suspension components, magnesium engine and gearbox cases, essential oil lines, clutch arms and SSI heat exchangers where fitted, which now cost over £1400 a pair.
Our rear sump guard is handmade here at Wardington and costs just £650 including the mounting system. Though the majority of our customers are road drivers only, there is a lot to be said for increasing underbody protection on road-going 911s, particularly cars that frequent the UK’s more entertaining back roads.
Protecting those hard-to-find parts is only going to get more important as time goes on, and parts get even scarcer. Call us today on 01295 750 514 to enquire about having one fitted to your precious early Porsche.
