Dessie Nutt led home the historic Manx rally last weekend with a convincing win. Dessie was one of a four-car Tuthill Porsche team on the two-day rally. Peter Lythell returned following a ten-month absence to finish fifth in the post-historic section.
It was not all plain sailing for Tuthill Porsche runners, as Phil and Barbara Smith sadly retired from the first day’s Isle of Man tunning with a broken crownwheel and pinion. Tuthill’s rally service mechanics fitted a new gearbox on Friday evening and Phil and Barbara enjoyed a great day on the Saturday.
Also running was Edmund Peel in his ex-works Audi Quattro rally car, recently rebuilt here in Wardington. The car had not been used for nine years and a huge effort meant the car made it to the start line on Saturday morning.
Sadly, the width of the Quattro caught Edmund out on the fourth stage and the resulting damage from a collision with a rock sidelined the car. The next round is the Harry Flatters event on the infamous Epynt military ranges near Brecon.
