Skunk Works was the name given to the top secret special projects department at Lockheed Martin, the military aircraft manufacturers, who built some of the world’s most incredible jets in the 1950s and ’60s. It has since come to mean any covert department inside an organisation, specialising in cutting edge development.
Here at Tuthill Porsche, we’re lucky to have some creative minds that look at things and wonder: what if? When time on a project allows, it’s always great to voice those ‘what ifs’ out loud and decide whether they’re worth a try.
Currently in development at Tuthill Porsche is a power steering system for early cars, to be installed and developed on our skunkworks 912. We are also working on our reproduction rear suspension arms for early wide body cars. We’ve also been playing with a new design of heat exchanger, built around optimised exhaust manifolds. So far, so good.
The picture with this update is of a 911 that recently visited Wardington for an engine rebuild. It’s an ex-Dutch Supercar Challenge car, made mostly of plastic and running an obscene amount of power. I’ve love to tell you more about it it, but skunkworks rules have me sworn to secrecy.
