The Safari Rally has recently returned to the WRC after it was removed from the calendar 19 years ago, in 2002.
However, since 2003 it has run bi-annually in the form of the East African Safari Classic Rally. Re-living the original challenge of pre-1986 cars having to tackle thousands of Kenyan kilometers in ever-changing terrain and weather.

2022 saw Tuthill Porsche take 13 cars and a team of 70 people out to East Africa, and this year they were also joined by Hoonigan star Ken Block on his debut attempt.

Tuthill Porsche’s highest placed finisher in this year’s competition was ex-Junior WRC Champion Patrik Sandell, co-driven by Henrik Bolinder.

“The Safari Rally is unique; it always has been it always will be. This year was no exception.

The rescheduled date meant the climate was hotter and harsher than ever. Added to this we went North for the first time in a long time. The roads up there are extremely tough!

Measuring success is of course subjective. But in my mind this year, more than any, was a huge success.

An amazing bunch of clients including many debuting not only in rallying terms but also in Safari terms led to a team atmosphere which was very, very special.

Second place and six cars in the top 10 was quite an achievement and only made possible

with a team of crazily great people. Can’t wait till the next one!”

Richard Tuthill

Tuthill Porsche has won ‘The World’s Toughest Rally’ four times in the past.  Winners include Bjorn and Mathias Waldegard (2011), Stig Blomqvist and Stephane Prevot (2015), Richard Jackson and Ryan Champion (2017), and most recently Kris Rosenberger and Nicola Bleicher (2019).

This year’s full length feature film in collaboration with Petroleum&Co, has documented the personal endeavours of competitors and crew alike. Highlighting the effort, comradery and tireless work that goes into tackling the ‘world’s toughest rally’ head on.
