Tuthill Porsche tests for 2018 Wales Rally GB

Tuthill Porsche takes on the 2018 Wales Rally GB with a Group 4 911 SC rally car in Almeras colours

We took two Porsches testing in the forests of mid-Wales last month ahead of this year’s WRC Wales Rally GB, which takes place this weekend: October 4th to 7th. Glenn Janssens will tackle his first gravel rally in the Belgian Championship-winning Group 4 911 SC, which our workshops have adjusted for use off-tarmac. Glenn’s co-driver for Rally GB is our great friend and Safari Classic Rally winner, Stéphane Prevot.

Testing was very positive. Richard spent the morning in the car at Walter’s Arena evaluating the suspension setup and testing our latest generation dog box transmission on gravel. The car performed impeccably and was pronounced ready to go. Also present in Wales was the Valkyrie Racing Porsche 356, which enjoyed a thorough shakedown following a major upgrade in the Tuthill Porsche workshops. The car ran beautifully all day as part of its final preparations before shipping to Peru, where it takes on the Caminos del Inca rally later this month – more on that later.

Wales Rally GB 2018: National Rally Schedule

Glenn and Stéphane face a terrific challenge, as they take on the Wales Rally GB National Rally this weekend. The 2018 WRGB National Rally runs to an extended two-day itinerary, to include all of the special stages on both Friday and Saturday.

Friday takes the competitors right across north Wales, with sections of closed road creating new challenges in the classic Brenig, Alwen and Penmachno forests. There is also a brand new double-header stage at Slate Mountain: home of Zip World. The incredible Welsh adventure park hosts Europe’s longest zip lines, where participants can travel at over 100mph (check out the zip line action on Youtube).

A punishing Saturday schedule takes the rally into mid Wales and the hallowed forests of Myherin, Sweet Lamb, Hafren, Dyfi and Gartheiniog. These huge national forests offer great vantage points for the thousands of spectators expected in support of two proven British winners: Elfyn Evans and Kris Meeke.

A prize-giving ceremony in the rally village on Saturday evening brings the rally to a close. We wish all competitors, spectators, organisers and marshalls attending the rally a safe and enjoyable weekend in Wales.
