It’s Ulster Rally time this weekend. Tuthill Porsche is fielding a strong contingent of classic Porsche 911 rally cars for the 2011 Todds Leap Ulster Historic Rally. The event is round five of the Dunlop/Wonago MSA British Historic Rally Championship, and the first Tarmac rally of this year’s series.

The great Dessie Nutt will be out in his Tuthill 911, fighting for a good result at home. Edmund Peel and Todd Falvey in his spotless Belga-painted car are also with us for the weekend.

Tuthill Challenge competitor, Andrew Barnes, will be running in the penultimate round of the only 2011 rally series solely for Porsche 911s. Fresh from his trip to Barbados with Francis, Jimmy McRae is also running in a Tuthill Challenge 911.

2011 marks the 30th anniversary of Jimmy’s first Ulster win. Back then, Jim was in an Opel Ascona, on his way to winning the British Open and Irish Tarmac championships in one year. None of us had any idea how the McRae rally dynasty would grow: the McRae Stages Rally will be the final round of the Tuthill Challenge.

We’ll be doing our best to bring you updates on all of our competitors as the weekend progresses. Meanwhile, here’s a terrific video from the 1984 Ulster Rally. with Jimmy versus Russell in Opel Manta 400s, and Walter ahead of both in a SWB Audi Quattro on test. Jimmy’s driving in this video is absolutely inch-perfect.
