We’re on the Harry Flatters Rally this weekend with Below Zero Ice Driving customer, Jeff Curtis. Jeff is driving his debut Porsche rally in a 911 plucked from the Below Zero fleet, and has chosen the famous Harry Flatters Rally to kick off a series of arrive-and-drive rally events with Tuthill Porsche.
Not to be outdone by Jeff’s pioneering spirit, Richard has picked Harry Flatters Rally as the debut outing for our all-new Porsche 997 RGT rally car. Recently completed here at Wardington and wearing its all-new Tuthill Porsche livery, the 911 R-GT will run as course car on the 2014 Harry Flatters.
Peter Lythell will partner Richard on this tricky one-day rally. Run by the Brecon Motor Club over hundreds of acres of military land, Harry Flatters is a true test of nerve. Roads that seem to travel straight for miles into the distance encourage a fully-flat throttle pedal – hence the name – but the quickest sections have hidden dips and junctions, all designed to catch out the unwary, with potentially disastrous results.
Following a trouble-free half-hour shakedown earlier this week, Richard took a late decision to run and test our new RGT Porsche in public. “First and foremost, we are rally fans,” says our team leader. “It’s taken a determined effort by our team to get FIA approval for a modern 911 in current WRC rallying, but we’re delighted to have finally accomplished this.
“Now that the door has been opened, the prospects offered by a Porsche 911 RGT rally car are incredibly exciting and nothing beats live stage rallying, so we just can’t wait to try it! It should be a hit with the Harry Flatters crowd, and with all rally fans in future destinations.”
